GOP Debate tonight

Be sure to get your work done early or set your TiVo up for some exciting primary election debate action.... right? As much as I enjoy debates, haven't we had enough? Especially the ridiculous CNN/You Tube debate. Since when has You Tube been involved in politics? Oh yeah, it hasn't, but to make sure they get their name out there, they are willing to host video questions for another asinine CNN debate. Think Guliani will be asked if he prefer diamonds or pearls?

Paris Riots

More riots rocked Paris for the second day. What is going on? Political upheaval? Worker strikes turned ugly? Nope. Two kids riding a motorcycle illegally were killed when they were speeding and crashed into a police car. According to early reports the police car being involved was just incidental, they weren't pursuing the youths, they were just on a routine patrol. Neither of the kids killed were wearing helmets.

Tragic accident. But a means for starting a riot?

The rioters are burning buildings, libraries and cars... in their own neighborhood! What does this solve? Nothing. France has had trouble in these areas before due to high poverty rates in mainly immigrant neighborhoods. This could have also spun off of the recent worker strikes that occurred in France due to new President Sarkozy passing legislation to get control of France's extremely beneficial entitlement program. (workers in question were given very nice pension plans and allowed to retire at age 50!) Out of control immigration + Poverty + Very little Government resonse = Riots.

Thumbs up for Sarkozy for trying to get control of things over there... but don't expect it to get any prettier anytime soon.

Jesse Jackson: Stop ignoring us!

I'm white, but if I were African American I would hope that we could find a better spokesman for the community than Jesse Jackson (or Al Sharpton). It seems like these two are always trying to bring back racism, or the attitude of the country back in the 50's and 60's. Sure there are still incidences of racism occurring around the country, but not everything is about race, and incidences of racism are becoming the exception.... not the norm that it used to be.
The candidates aren't ignoring blacks. They're running a national campaign that has to address issues across the board, so to have them focus on a minority group that makes up only 12% of the population and consistently votes Democratic (90% of blacks vote Democrat) is ridiculous. You don't see Republicans campaigning in Utah which makes up about 5% of the population and voted 65% Republican? Believe it or not, they don't have unlimited funds, so if you want them to spend time campaigning for issues that African Americans are concerned about... BRING UP THOSE ISSUES! Don't play the race card, because it won't work! Try bringing up urban development or health care or whatever it is that you are worried about that is affecting the black community.

Jesse you've cried 'Wolf!' one too many times and the townsfolk are ignoring you.

Lott Resigns

Add another Republican Congressman's name to the growing list of retirees. Why the exodus of Republicans? Well most of these Congressman come from some heavily contested areas, so perhaps it's fear of losing crucial seats in the coming 2008 election.

I think that a quick election process would favor the Republicans in these areas, so instead of waiting for the general election, the republicans are pre-emptively trying to solidify a few key states before the upcoming Presidential election.

Tax Plans

Taxes! How boring you say. Well I agree. Talking about taxes is about as exciting as talking about algebra, but the difference is that taxes directly affect our lives in a big way. Taxes can spur or inhibit the economy. Now when it comes to taxes, less is better right? Well I believe that to be true. Bush rolled back taxes, sure it was for big coporations, but what do big corporations do with all that money? Well they start more businesses, invest it into the economy and make more money. That's bad right? Big corporations, big money... sticking it to the working man. Wrong.

All that money trickles down. Sure the rich get richer, but so do the poor. More jobs are created by these big businesses, better salaries are given to managers and CEO's to make these jobs and businesses successful. Its a trickle down effect that stimulate the economy and create job growth.

Raising taxes on the other hand inhibits economic growth. Less money in the hands of the people means less economic activity. Poor or rich, without money they can't spend it, invest it or create more businesses.

Now that's why I have a hard time voting for any of the Democratic nominees this year. Most want to end the Bush tax cuts and increase government spending (which means higher taxes). Why would I want that? All their nice assistance programs means more taxes, when if the government ran more efficiently with what they had, they would be able to run more assistance programs like the Dems want. I liked their campaign of '06 that they would clean up Congress... but what have they actually cleaned up?

Here's Thompson's new tax plan. I'm starting to like this guy more and more.

Democrats Won't Bring the Troops Home Afterall

For those that have been following the war and the empty promises from the Democrats, then this comes as no shock. To the everyday American, it may come as a bit of a surprise, but when faced with the reality of the situation in the Middle East and Iraq the Dems finally realized how unrealistic they've been.

Here's why:

First: You bring the troops home immediately and it destabilizes Iraq and allows for an Islamic Fundamentalist type regime to take over. Did we really sacrifice the lives of our troops to replace one evil regime with another?

Second: We would put all our Allies at risk. Those in Iraq, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, etc. etc. With Iraq ran by extremists and Iran gaining nuclear power, all of those nations would be at risk for increased terrorist attacks and war.

Third: Oil. Yes, that dirty dirty word. But that black gold is what will keep this country going. What heats our homes? Runs our cars? Powers our factories? Oil. If we can't control the supply then we lose control of the single most vital raw material in our economy. As much as those enviromentalists hate it, without it they couldn't afford their Prius' and trips to the Far East to protest Dolphin hunting.

Video: Mark Steyn on aborting your way to a lower carbon footprint

Thanks Hotair!

Have the enviromental nuts gone too far?  Apparently not for this woman. Even if 50 years from now scientists still maintain that we are the sole cause of global warming (which I highly doubt) can we really make a difference when China, Russia and the majority of third world countries are the main polluters? Sad to say it, but maybe it's a good thing this woman can't reproduce....

Black Friday

Unbridled capitalism at its best. Harried shoppers fighting over this seasons must-have items. Nintendo Wii's and digital cameras flying off the shelves while children scream for more and more. Why do we put ourselves through this every year? Why do we rush to the call of Sale! 50% off! and Buy One Get One Free! How did a quite shopping trip with the family to pick out gifts for each other turn into soccer moms beating each other up over the last Elmo doll? Do we really need to be shopping for electronics at 4am? Is 10 dollars off really worth 20 bucks worth of gas driving to every store to find the best sale of the day?

Watch these crazy shoppers rush the store.

I spent Black Friday sleeping off my Turkey hangover. After finally dragging my now-10lbs-heavier butt out of bed and into the shower I realized that if I did my shopping online I could narrow down my trips to the store. I found all the deals online that I needed, and narrowed my shopping to two stores. I left the house in the late afternoon, found ample parking, stores busy but not overcrowded, and managed to snag every item I needed at a price that was well below what I would normally find. What did I honestly miss out on that those morons purchased at 5am?

Welcome!

If you've managed to wander into this blog you are probably wondering what the hell it's about. Well, I created this blog with the hope of talking about subjects that really matter and can really affect our lives. I will do my best to get my information from both sides of the aisle on every subject, but I can't promise a completely un-biased opinion. If I didn't have an opinion on anything, why would you want to read this anyhow?

I also would encourage you to post your ideas and opinions. Please use this blog as a means of discussing ideas, but please don't abuse it to rant, insult or advertise.

I feel that if we can keep the discussion civil, we can learn a lot from one another.

With that said.... Welcome!
